ANCOP and Forexworld: Delivering love and hope to Filipino families

“Go out there and do your best and know that there are people out in the world who really care about and love you and hope that you become successful through the program (of ANCOP); grab the opportunity with both hands, work hard, and stay positive.”

This is the message of Enrique Campos Jr., Director of Forexworld Australia, to the beneficiaries of CFC ANCOP Australia.  ANCOP is short for Answering the Cry of the Poor and is an Australian charity organisation whose main work is encouraging poor families to strive their way out of poverty through education.

Both Forexworld and ANCOP find congruence in their desire to strengthen the family—connecting and delivering a symbol of their love and presence to the family members left behind in the Philippines.  Forexworld started in 1997 as a cargo business delivering balikbayan boxes catering to Filipinos in Australia who are sending goods back home.  As Campos Jr. said, “…whether it’s Christmas or not, if there is a balikbayan box that arrives, it’s kind of like Christmas again.  Everyone gathers around and open this box full of love as the person here put a lot of time and effort in sending something…”  The company then added money remittance to their business in 2004 for those families here in Australia who are better off, to help their less fortunate family members back home.

Aside from expanding into the travel business in 2009, a few years ago, Forexworld also added food delivery into their remittance product.  Through their partners in the Philippines, Filipino-Australians can now be a part of every family parties and gatherings back home by contributing to the occasion through food like Jollibee and Max’s.
Forexworld’s success was driven by its desire to continuously provide the best kind of service to Filipinos in Australia in reaching out to their loved ones back home especially the less fortunate.  This resonates the kind-natured spirit of Campos Jr.’s mum who was very active in helping the poor.  He said his mum had always been involved in going to poor places in Manila and would drive activities within the Church and community groups in trying to help the poor.

This year, Forexworld is one of the sponsors of the car raffle fund raising activity of ANCOP.  Campos Jr. said ANCOP provides fantastic initiatives and run really good programs and provide the support and mindset to the Filipinos that they are also passionate about.

ANCOP currently has 360 scholars in the Philippines (on top of the educational support they extend in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu).  Through education sponsorships, poor families take courage to dream and fight their way out of poverty.   It is a long and tedious process for these children and their families that’s why ANCOP is committed year after year to do their best in raising funds to sustain these dreams.   Visit www.cfcancop.org.au for information on how you too can help.

Toyota Chatswood gets behind ANCOP Australia

Toyota Chatswood and CFC ANCOP Australia renew their partnership to raise funds to help poor families in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Island. For the second time running, Toyota Chatswood is providing the grand prize of a new Corolla Ascent Sport for the biennial car raffle fund raising activity of ANCOP.

Chatswood and Ryde Toyota Managing Director, Ian Mayer, commended ANCOP for the terrific wok that they do.  Mr Mayer himself lived in the Philippines for two years as a child when his father, an executive for Qantas was assigned to work in Manila in 1969.  That’s why, when ANCOP approached Toyota to be a partner for the fundraising event, Mr Mayer said “it was a natural fit”.

“Every company or every executive who has the opportunity to help should always help.  You’re a highly valued organisation and our business tries to be highly valued as well.  We have four core values and we try to live those everyday”, explained Mr Mayer.  This month of September, their staff raised about $50,000 for children and adults living with cerebral palsy.  Mr Mayer added that there are many worthwhile causes and it’s important to go out there and support the community.

Running for Khayla...

Picture
A few years ago I decided to jump out of my comfort zone and sign up for the Youth for Christ Oceania - Great Adventure Tour (GAT). We traveled as a group in the Philippines and we visited one of the ANCOP villages where we were able to see first hand how the charity supports many families and their children by funding their education and providing work opportunities. Before our last session at the village one of the little girls from my host family asked what we were going to do that evening. I told Khayla we had our final session at the village and then our group had to continue on with our travels. She held my hand tight and said - "And then you're coming back here so we can play again?". My heart sank at the thought of leaving the families who had given so much to us despite having very little during our stay.

This immersion experience left a mark on me and since then I've always wanted to do what I can to help these families and their communities. This  is the reason why I signed up for CITY2SURF this year along with a few of my friends in Singles for Christ (SFC) City-Bankstown unit, and raise fund for ANCOP. When we started our training sessions for the 14-kilometer run, we were almost at the end of our SFC Christian Life Program and it was a great way to get to know more about each other whilst training in a supportive environment. We met up every Saturday until the weekend of the race. I spoke to many people to let them know more about how ANCOP help assists people in communities across the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. It also allowed me to have conversations about the causes of injustice and poverty and how we can all be encouraged to take action.
On the morning of the race we all met up with people from other SFC chapters and prayed together before running the marathon. I kept in mind Khayla, her family and those in ANCOP we were raising funds for. It was a surreal feeling to see that our training paid off when we finally reached the finish line at Bondi. We are very thankful to all the those who contributed and supported us because together we can help make a difference to families living in impoverished communities.

My Experience at City2Surf 2016

18/8/2016

Hi,

My name is Niobe. I am 9 years old and in year 4.

My experience at City2Surf on the 14th of August 2016 was painful yet worth it because it gives me a chance to think about other people in the world who  have to walk more than 14 kilometres each day just to get water or to go to school. For water, they have to go back and forth because they only have little containers.

This year I walked to help ANCOP raise enough money to send a child like me to school in the Philippines. ANCOP scholars  are very poor. They cannot even afford uniforms, bus money and lunch.

I want to help at least one child stay in school for one more year. You can help also by donating as much money as you can so I can raise $360 for ANCOP.

I would like to thank mum and dad, my auntie Rose, my brother Jed, my sisters Serenade, Lara and my baby sister Eliza (in her trolley) for joining and   encouraging me in City2Surf 2016.

May God bless us all.

Our Sydney team finished the race. We walked, ran, limped and piggy backed our way towards the finish line. The weather cooperated and sent us some nice cooling breeze to relieve our discomfort and forget our aching feet and legs. We travelled all 14km by foot and gave out a sigh of relief as soon as we crossed the finished line - Thank God it's only once a year. :) It's an experience for some, to many it's a challenge. But to kids in developing counties like PNG, 14km a day is their everyday reality. Many of our students live so far from school that they have to walk up to 7km to get their education, and walk back another 7 to get home. We at ANCOP would like to make life a little better for them. Please give what you can to our fundraising team, so that we can continue our educational projects. You can do your part and help build the world a better future.

"After City2surf 2015, I asked my son if he wanted to run again next year and the answer is a big "YES". [Registration thru the link below] Our fundraising [page] is now up. We believe that education for less privileged kids can't wait, their hunger for education must be supported. But we can't do it alone, help us and help these young children go to school and have a better future. Thank you."

"Praise God guys! I hope everyone had a wonderful run today.

Though our feet and legs are sore and tired, our spirit are high knowing that all these are ultimately for our ANCOP scholars. As kuya Oliver said, "the easy part is dedicated for ourselves, the hard part is for ANCOP and the most difficult is for the Lord". No matter how you run it, I praise God for the strength and the will to finish the race. Well done guys!

Our fundraising efforts are doing great as well. As at this moment, Everyday Hero alone, we have raised 10.5K. Praise God again for this blessing. Take a moment now to thank all your sponsors and take note, that, EDH can still accept donations till end of Aug.

Till next year!
God bless you all."

In  the  aftermath  of  cyclone  Pam,  the  devastation  in  Vanuatu  still  leaves  more  to  be  done.
According  to  the  latest  report  from  our  own  CFC  Vanuatu,  there  is  still  no  electricity  and  the
recovery  process  will  take  longer  than  usual  to  happen. ...

Taking  the  mandate  to  Love  More  that  the  Lord  has  given  us  this  year,  we  are  now  called  to
“pay  it  forward”,  and  show  the  Vanuatu  community  how  much  they  are  in  our  hearts and  prayers  at  this  time.  Our  Global  Community  has  been  asked  to  help  as  well  to  contribute  in  this  massive  relief  effort.

Therefore,  here  in  Australia,  the  CFC  Australia  National  Council  enjoins  every  member  of  our
compassionate  and  caring  community  to  love  greatly,  give  generously,  and  to  walk  humbly  with  our  God.  Let  us  reach  deep  into  our  pockets  and  even  think  of  creative  ways  to  fund  raise  to  help  our  brethren  in  Vanuatu  to  get  back  on  their  feet.

All  donations  made  thru CFC ANCOP  Australia  are  tax  deductible  for  individuals,  corporations,  and  even  groups  (e.g.  CFC  households)  where  donations  are  broken  down  individually....

ANCOP: Second Leg is 13 years old today

17/3/2015

Picture
LEADERS’ RETREAT, March 14,15….Recapping the events of the weekend retreat at the mountain top Mulgoa, Denis Reyes, newly installed CFC Oceania National Director echoed the many blessings the community at 27 years old have enjoyed. Together with its many challenges, victory of the Spirit has been evident in the expansion of its mission areas not only nationwide but in the Oceania region as well. Good news cannot be contained..So much has been said and posted in facebook and other forms of media..

At 27, our first leg of rapid, massive evangelization for family renewal is starting to take roots.

13 years ago, March 17, 2002 was the birth of the community’s second leg of bringing glad tidings to the poor (see photo below at Castle Hill RSL). At 13 it is shifting gear from being a child to becoming the most vibrant of age, youthful teens. ANCOP became one of CFC’s expression of fullness and renewal, faith in action.

Picture
In the past decade, CFC has been mobilised and inspired by many who took on this call. It was heartbreaking at times, for the passion that is strong sometimes is hard to tame. And many have fallen away or just merely moved on to other callings more noble.

At 13, we are grateful for the many elders who stood by to form this pillar. We honour the many YFC’s and SFC’s then, now married and have become great family men who were part of the birth and growth of ANCOP. We also honour the many donors and partners in and out of the CFC global family who worked
with us to be the hands that feed, the bigger brothers and sisters to so many. At 13 we also have heard many success stories of those who are so proud to be called ANCOP scholars, now professionals.

At 13, we hope to spread our wings to our neighbouring Oceania countries, leave a legacy so that more of our younger generation who are so blessed in this bountiful land of Australia could also express their gratefulness thru the templates of educating poor children as their gateway from poverty.

At 13, the work has progressed from just being an entity of ANCOP to a bigger leg that will Build the
church of the POOR (BCOP).

And what a way to blow a candle – a very generous donation, an expression of maturity in spirit from a very humble family who wants to be anonymous, was handed over to our ANCOP mancom head, Goody Maquinad by our BCOP director, Bong and Jenny Bernardo. It has been a truly fruitful weekend.

CFC Bankstown has a Christmas tradition of bringing the season's cheers by sending parcels of goodies for our Aeta's brothers and sisters in Sta. Juliana GK ANCOP Village being run and managed by our CFC team led by Lito and Marita Policarpio.

Shown in photos were the sorted food items sent or bought thru the money collected by CFC Bankstown during their Christmas Appeal and Assembly.

It's a wonderful tradition started some 15 years ago and still goes on binding our link with our indigenous members in the Mt. Pinatubo disaster area in Tarlac, Philippines.

God blesses the hands that feed...
